English Essay Change

Change is conveyed in many ways. It can be a change in self, a change in perspective or a change in world. A change in perspective is present throughout Leunigs cartoon, 'The Door' by Miroslav and 'Sky High' by Hannah Robert.

The cartoon by Leunig conveys the change in perspective by many different visual techniques. The characters facial expression in frame 2 is one of happiness and content. This shows the reader how enthusiastic he is to enter the new world and face new challenges that face him. The characters posture in frame 2 also shows us how confident and keen he is to experience this change by going through the open door. The perspective of the character at this point is of excitement and happiness. When the character returns to his home in the fifth frame we are shown a change in perspective. We see this again by the two visual techniques of facial expression and posture. The characters facial expression has now changed from being excited and happy to one that is sad and even disappointed in the outcome. His posture shows the audience he is not pleased as the character is slouching and this shows us his sadness. We are shown a change in perspective throughout the cartoon by Leunig.

The poem 'Sky High' by Hannah Robert is a very emotional piece of work based on her thinking about her childhood memories. We see a change in perspective as she retells her happy experiences during her childhood and how she now sees her adulthood. With the use of many language techniques we understand how much the author enjoyed her childhood, especially playing on the washing line. An example of a language technique used is personification, "I feel the air flow around my outstretched arms and playfully tousle my hair". This shows how much she loved her younger years. We then are taken back to her present adult world and with the language techniques like metaphors; it helps the audience see her change in perspective. "I now write my own semaphore secrets in colourful t-shirts and mismatched socks" this quote shows us that the writer has found out the mysteries of adulthood, which turned out to be not that great. This poem displays her change in perspective based on her childhood recollections to her current adult life.
