This holiday allows students to express their respect to their teacher. Students begin preparing a week in advance, and many classes usually prepare literature and art to welcome Teachers' Day, while other students prepare foods and flowers for the parties held at their schools. Students usually visit their teachers at their homes to offer flowers and small gifts, or organize trips with their teachers and classmates. Former students also pay respect to their former teachers on this day. The holiday has its origins in a meeting between educators in communist bloc nations in Warsaw in 1957. It was first celebrated in 1958 as the Day of the International Manifest of Educators; in 1982 the day was renamed Vietnamese Educators' Day.

Vietnamese Teacher's Day is not only the day for students who are studying in the school express their gratitude to their teachers, but also a good occasion for each people to meditate and recall unforgettable memories which thay have ever had with their beloved teachers. In many schools, activities with various programs to celebrate Vietnamese Teacher's Day have been planned in early October.

In Vietnam, Teacher's Day ( was also renamed Vietnamese Educator's Day since 1982), has long been choosen officially a special day to express the tradition of "respecting the teacher and treasuring the morality". During this holiday, the students from everywhere in Viet Nam, also others from abroad, preparing special presents to honor their Teachers and to welcome Teacher's Day. Decorating class with special accessories, competiting to get more and more good marks, building the more exciting atmosphere of studying, and flower especially is the most popular activities and gifts prepared by students and pupils.
