Turntable Market in India

First of all we need to know what a turntable is actually. A turntable is a circular horizontal rotating platform of a phonograph on which the record is placed. The records which are placed on these turntables were earlier known as LPs (long playing) and now commonly known as Vinyl. Though these turntables have lost their importance and market as the sale and demand of vinyl have gone down drastically with the evolution of CDs, MP3s, I-Pods etc. In other words we can say that, after the digitization of music the demand for Vinyl or LPs have gone down. But the good thing is that, the market is not completely exhausted as people still remember the groovy music from the LPs.

Now, when people still remember the groove that came out from LPs, then there comes the scope of its market again. People stopped purchasing because it stopped coming in the market with the time. According to some people it is an entirely different experience, taking out the LP from the cover, wiping it with the cloth, placing the LP on the turntable and lightly put the needle on the LP and then sits back and enjoys the un-digitized music. They even say that it gives a feeling of hearing to a live concert. This is because the songs in the LPs are not compressed. Due to all these things some companies have taken initiative to bring alive this experience once again so that those who want to live their old days again can actually live it and it also gives a chance to experience to all those who were not present or were not able to during those days.

Saregama India was the first one to bring LPs back in the market. As per a recent report the demand is increasing though it's an old concept but people are accepting it. Some are buying to just enjoy the experience and some are buying as a style statement for them. It's not that only older people are buying, even the young generation is also buying new turntable because these players can be hooked up to their laptop and the vinyl music can be converted into other format and can be copied to the system as well. So, allover there is a scope in the market. The market may be niche for now but has a good potential in future.

There are few things that restrict people to buy Turntable and Vinyl. These problems are that they don't have the will power to decide on buying and finding a big, bulky and expensive turntable, people here don't care about quality of the music but people outside are ready to pay high to listen to good music, they think that vinyl gets scratches earlier than CDs. People don't understand that LPs are forever and it fetches good price even during resale and in fact it is an investment.

To increase the demand of the turntable it is very much necessary that people understand that it gives the original music and on top that people have to be made aware of it because most are not aware that something of that sort has started selling in the market. They also have to be made aware that nowadays even new film songs are coming in the Vinyl so buying a turntable will not so that is not a problem. They have to made realize that there lies a different kind of joy listening to a good music.

As said earlier that few companies have taken initiative to make alive this kind of experience they have come up with turntable and vinyl both so that people can't complain about non-availability. And it is evident that people are buying it
