Ethics are personal and professional standards, or the standards of a business. Values are the rules of the personal and professional standards that all individuals need to follow for their success. According to online sources people define values and ethics in relationship to character. At the moment of analyzing values more in depth, ethics are seen at the core. The definition of value relates to the way most individuals believe and think of what is important and correct to people as a society or sometimes what is correct for a person. In the online source Wikipedia, Ethics are seen as moral philosophy because there is a viewpoint of morality taken. According to Wikimedia Foundation Inc. (n.d.) "Ethic value denotes something's degree of importance, with the aim of determining what action or life is best to do or live, or at least attempt to describe the value of different actions. It may be described as treating actions themselves as abstract objects, putting value to them. It deals with right conduct and good life, in the sense that a highly, or at least relatively highly, valuable action may be regarded as ethically "good" , and an action of low, or at least relatively low, value may be regarded as "bad".".

Sources of Professional Values and Ethics

Personal Values

An important source of professional values and ethics is personal values. Every individual possess a number of personal values that will have an impact in a professional life. Personal values are a mix that will result in professional success. Some examples of personal values are punctuality, a purpose in life, the personal belief in hard work and many others, the list is endless. Personal values will develop into a specific type of conduct that will vary on every individual; this is known as personal ethic. Personal ethic is also an important part on professional success because it will determine the ability for an individual to obey the rules and commit to personalize the values of a company. Being able to make the right choices is a key factor for all persons to excel in all aspects of their careers. All individuals who commit to apply personal values to their lives will achieve success and this positive influence will be significant to their careers as well as the choices they make in life. Nichols, Nichols, and Nichols (2007) the key is to practice fairness, honesty, impartiality, and equity in all questionable situations.

Professional Integrity

Another source of professional values and ethics would be professional integrity. Integrity is steadfast adherence to a strict moral or code. When a people have a professional integrity, it shows that they care about whatever they are doing. Professional integrity can take a person very far in his or her profession. It shows accountability, and allows them to do what is right.
