Religion In Africa plays an important role in the life of the people .It is one of the pillars of the society and it is always related to all the manifestations of life .When the white man came to Africa he brought with him his relgion :Christianity which he tried t spread all over the african continent because of the animistic belifs of the natives who deeply and blindly belived in things thinking that they had souls and that they could be back to life again through the process of reincarnation .Christianity came to correct all theses falses preconcieved beliefs .In C.Achebe's Things Fall Apart the author deals with the religious naivety of his people the Igbos . He tried to shwo how the Igbos gave up believing in their native traditional religion and how they adopted Christianity as a faith .The fact that Achebe made the ancestors accept to give aplot of land to the white man was already a manner of accepting the new faith .Then when he spoke about Okonkwo's son Nwoye being attracted by the nex faith by its hymn and poetry explains the society started to be attracted by the nex faith and what it offers as subtitution to the old traditinal one .Many people who were rejected .denied and even made slaves under the old faith started to see aagain the light and be liberated emancipated by the new one .Achebe show s that each clas in the society in his novel tried to justify its dominanace over the other through the numbers of those who convertted to christianity or through thenumbers of those who remained faithful to their ancestral faith.
