.An accounting firm that Nathan interviewed with agreed to reimburse the money he spent on travelling to the firm’s office. However, Nathan realized then that he was overcharged by $40 but the accounting firm told Nathan to just send the current receipt anyway and that there was no problem. It was later confirmed that, after two hours of long-distance phone charges, the rental agency agreed to credit the $40 on his card. Nathan now has the opportunity to send the original receipt to the accounting firm and also be able to receive the credit from the rental agency. The question that Nathan faces is if it is ethical for him to put $40 in his pocket given that he had to deal with the phone calls with the rental agency.

.Some of the professional standards that exist in this case is that as an incoming staff in the profession of accounting, it is important for Nathan to know that it is his responsibility to cooperate with each other to maintain the public’s confidence and enhance the practice since he will be in the profession. In this case, it is Nathan’s responsibility to report what was happening in his situation where he was overcharged and was thinking of walking away with the money when he then found out he was getting paid back by the Rental company. Another point includes having integrity in the profession and this is required to be honest and any property should not be misused for personal gains and advantages. In this case, since Nathan could pocket the $40 without telling the firm, that would raise a questionable action since it was not his to take to begin with.

.If Nathan has not submitted either bill yet, it would be easier for him to just send in the higher bill to the accounting firm for reimbursement. Given that Nathan has already contacted the HR explaining his situation, it could save Nathan the time and energy not to call the Rental Agency about the overcharged bill and just ignore it. It has also been stated that the $40 amount does not meet the firm’s ‘materiality threshold’. Therefore, in their case, it does not really matter for them to pay for the overcharged amount.

.Even though the firm mentioned that they would reimburse the overcharged amount, they’re not aware of the fact that Nathan has already asked for the money from the rental company. This could lead to the question of how they would react when they found out Nathan had profited. Rather than gaining money, this could cause a bad reputation for Nathan and leave a bad impression if he ends up working for them. Even if this was a small matter, this could lead to even bigger problems later on and could ruin his career with the firm. Therefore, Nathan should submit the lower bill.

.Given the situation, there are a couple of actions that I would do if I were Nathan. I would contact the HR and explain the situation that I received the refund and would ask for guidance. The second option is to submit the bill to the
