Anaylsis of My Butt Nike Advert

Text 22. My butt.

This piece of writing is written by Nike, the main theme of this advert is confidence

The advert shows this by talking about a girl that her butt. The structure of this text is very much like waves.

"MY BUTT' is the start of the advert and is put in to capitals and the font is relatively big compared to the rest of the writing. The implied reader is teenage girls to middle aged women. The reason we thought that this is the implied reader is because it talks about "MY BUTT IS BIG...AND THAT'S JUST FINE" how her butt is big but she does not mind. The age range we have choosen for the implied reader is more self conscious about their body, this poster tells them that the implied readers should be proud of their bodies and that they should not care what other people think.

We thought that this is a text that may require some knowledge and education as there are words "EMBASSADOR" and " BOARDER COLLIE". If you did not have knowledge of what these mean, then you would not be able to understand the meaning of it.

"BOARDER COLLIE" is a sheep herding dog very much like a leader. By using a leader like dog as an example to say what her butt is like, is tells us that shes very confident in her butt and that her butt keeps skinny girls away from "BEST DEALS" which I think is talking about men.

This advert is similar to a modern poem. It has the use of some metaphor"IT'S A SPACE HEATER FOR MY SIDE OF THE BED" the use of this metaphor says that her butt is very warm and comfortable. This is showing confidence by saying that not only that shes proud of her butt, there are many good things about it.

Not only does it use metaphors, there is also repetition of "AND THAT'S JUST FINE" by using repetition It makes the reader think and remember that is fine to have a big butt.

There is also repetition of the word "AND" very often at the start of each line. Show that there is a lot to say about her butt.

This is reinforced by the picture that is next to the text. The picture is a middle aged women that is looking down, and exposing the lower area of her body. By using this, it attracts many readers to wonder what this text is about as normally an advert would not use this as it might be inappropriate. This reinforces the whole advert and the theme of confidence.

All the text in advert is in capitals. This is a way used to attract attention to the readers. And the structure of the text mirrors the female form, its very wavy and follows the curve of the picture of the woman on the side.
