The Ark of the Covenant was a very useful piece of furniture in the tabernacle. The Ark of the Covenant was located in the Holy of Holies. Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies. The Ark of the Covenant housed the Ten Commandments, a golden pot of manna, and Aaron's rod that budded. The lid of the Ark of the Covenant was called the Mercy Seat. It is made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold. The Mercy Seat was made with pure gold. God talks to the high priest here. Each year the high priest would go to the Ark of the Covenant and sprinkle blood on the Mercy Seat to cleanse the people of their sins. It was the most important piece in the tabernacle.

The Ark of the Covenant is a symbol of God and both are located in the Holy of Holies. The Ark of the Covenant represents both God the Father and Jesus Christ. It represents God the Father because God is the most holy being and the Ark of the Covenant is the most holy item in the tabernacle and both can only be approached by a blood sacrifice. The Ark of the Covenant is a picture of Jesus Christ. The Ark of the Covenant is made of Acacia wood which represents the indestructible humanity of Christ. The Ark of the Covenant was also overlaid with pure gold which shows us he was also God. Aaron's rod is like Jesus. It was something that died and then came alive through the power of God. Everything on the Ark of the Covenant speaks of Jesus.

The Ark of the Covenant represents a material object that shows me that God wants to be with me. He is with me through all of my good times and bad times. When I run into a problem and do not think I can make it, God is there. God will be with me and never forsake me. This piece of furniture helps me see that Jesus was all man but all God at the same time. Jesus became man, suffered and was tempted just like man. The Ark of the Covenant was strong just like God and was carried by the Israelites throughout their journey. It was a sign of Gods holy presence and how he is always present. The Ark of the Covenant is very meaningful.
