Are Amish people "deprived" by not wholly participating in what modern American Society has to offer?

To answer this question it is necessary to clarify what modern American Society means.

To get to a conclusion it may be a start to ask, "What HAS the American Society to offer?" Our society is growing day by day, minute by minute with an enormous rapidity that no single individual is even able to count all the modern new inventions of technology by its ten fingers. We love technology. Everybody loves technology because it is working to our convenience. The human's biggest error is probably convenience. It is almost ironical that we consider ourselves independent. Our independence does only work in this system we built up and this system is dependent on our today's modern technology. So what has American Society to offer besides of showing the convenience of technology, and at the same time the human's dependence? It should be mentioned that technology is a status of convenience and dependence, but it also shows the great progress of human ability to change, invent, and grow. Modern American Society offers a huge amount of knowledge, and is not afraid of showing it. Our society pushes itself to great limits and further. Which is a positive characteristic: you can always change, create new things, and discover the unknown. This is very exciting. But is it necessary? As the Amish community shows: it is not. They manage everyday live very well. They may not share the great knowledge. And with knowledge I don't consider that they don't know what is going on in the world. I consider the word knowledge in such a context as an "applied knowledge". But do I consider that lack of knowledge as a deprivation? No, I don't. If I would do, I need to consider our "Modern American Society" as deprived, too, regarding to the dependence of technology. I don't want to know what the world would look like without technology. Imagine one day all the electricity turns off. This scenario would probably resemble an apocalypse. Who would be deprived then? The Amish society takes care of an independence that the modern society has given up a long time ago. A lot of people think that the Amish could learn from the modern society, I think that we could learn from them as well. Many people think that the Amish people don't use the human potential to the fullest. I think they use it, just in a very different way. I also think we should appreciate the Amish society for being the Amish. People should not forget that you aren't born Amish, you chose to be Amish. That is an important fact. We should thank this special society, and hope that they are able to survive and manage with technology dominance growing every day. Maybe one day we need the knowledge the Amish people are taking. You never know.
