1.0 INTRODUCTION

Berger Paints began its painting in Bangladesh since independence. And this has been a footstep to bring more than 230 years of global paint industry experience into Bangladesh. Over the decades, Berger has evolved to becoming the leading paint solution provider in this country and has diversified into every sphere of the industry - from Decorative Paints to Industrial Coatings, from Marine Coatings to Powder Coating and what not.

Berger paints Bangladesh Ltd (member of worldwide group) the only multinational paint company of Bangladesh started its first plant at Kalurghat Industrial Area , Chittagong 25 years ago. Since then it has continued its efforts to be the premier customer - oriented company by providing best quality, new state of the art products and obviously the best after sales service utilizing its access to the groups highly developed international research and development facility ,Berger has always been able to be one step ahead of the competition in providing the best quality and the best technology to the customer . As a result, Berger's contribution is 49% of the total paint requirements in Bangladesh Paint market today.

Berger's one of the prime objectives is to provide best customer support-connecting consumers to technology through specialized services like free technical advice on surface preparation, color consultancy, special color schemes etc. To bolster customer satisfaction, Berger has recently launched Home Decor Service from which once can get an array of services pertaining to painting.

With its strong distribution network, Berger has reached almost every corner of Bangladesh. Nationwide Dealer Network, supported by 7 Sales Depots strategically located at Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Bogra, Sylhet and Comilla has an unmatched capability to answer to paint needs at almost anywhere in Bangladesh.

1.1 Origin of the Report

The Internship program of BBA offered by Independent University, Bangladesh is an object oriented discipline which is focused on the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of the learning outcome. I had the opportunity to complete my internship program in Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. (Chittagong Factory). Berger paints Bangladesh Ltd. is a leading company in our country. It has a good and effective Human Resource Management system which is undoubtedly achieve its desired goal with minimum costs rendering proper planned and develop skills of work force. Since Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. Is performing its HRM program in their organization so I had the opportunity to conduct the survey there. The survey research has been conducted to analyze "HRM Practice in Bangladesh; A study on Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. of Chittagong Factory. Mr. A.M.M. Sajjad manger of Administration & Labor Relations of Berger paints Bangladesh Ltd (Chittagong Factory) and member of 1st Labor Court Chittagong and approved by my supervisor Dr. Tahlil Azim Faculty Member and Associate Professor, School of Business, Independent University Bangladesh.

1.2 Statement of the Problem / Problem Definition

This research would investigate the Human Resource Management Practice in Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. Chittagong factory division. On assessing the level of HR management tools such as Recruiting and selection process, Training, Performance Management, Labor relation, Employee relation, Job analysis, Job design, Development, Incentives, Benefits etc. in the organization to increase the level of personnel management and smooth decision making and of course to enquire the workers satisfaction. Because HR department is related directly with the workers and welfare of employees such research is needed to identify the current situation of the company and it's wellbeing.

Hence the need for a study on HRM Practice is beyond question. The study should be considered as a primary study for further elaborate research work.

1.2 Objective of the Report

1.2.1 Broad objective of my study is to know about the HR activities currently practiced by the Berger paints Bangladesh Ltd (Chittagong factory) in Bangladesh perspective.

1.2.2 My Specific objectives of my research are:-

1. To know about the recruiting and selection process of the company.

2 To know about the training and development process of the company.

3 To know about the compensation and benefit process of the company.

4 To understand the safety and health procedure of the company.

5 To conceive practical experience and knowledge about the HR practice.

1.3 Purpose of the study

The main purpose of the study is to know about the HRM practice in Berger Paints (Chittagong Factory) which is also an essential part of my course of BBA program in Independent University, Bangladesh. Through this internship program my knowledge about the practical work will also be increased. Now a day's business world is moving fast, so fast that we need to adopt the new ideas and modern concepts to go forward with it. HRM practice is an essential part of running a large scale manufacturing business organization. This is a broad object of modern business world which is now needed in almost every renowned organization. Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. Is a worldwide company where Human Resource Management Practice is helping out to manage their operations and handle the workers with care. But still there are need of study in the field of HR related issues in the organization. So this research will help finding out the solution of the various reason of Human Resource Management in Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd.(Ctg Factory).

1.4 Scope of the Study

In my research I tried my best to give a clear idea about the HRM Practice in Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd (Chittagong Factory) .But due to the confidentially issue of the company some aspects were kept concealed. Again this report is only based on the Chittagong Factory of the company so, there are scope for study more broadly on this field.

1.5 Limitations of the Study

Though making a report is an integral part of Internship Program but I have done some in spite of the following limitations:-

Large scale research was not possible due to lack of experience of the researcher.
