Fed Up Summary

The video starts off with an old video of agriculture and how farming was becoming more scientific to help change the way we have farmed. The Green Revolution explains that the farming became more scientific and that pesticides were being used as well as genetic engineered crops to help production of crops to stop hunger. Pesticides came about from secrets from Nazi Germany and from all the chemical factories left from the war that provided information about chemicals to keep crops growing. The old chemicals were banned after tests showed that they had bad effects on the crops due to concentrations in the chemicals and if the plants were oil based. The larger farms had a smaller revenue from each acre than the smaller farms but having more acres of land to farm the larger farms only seemed more productive. In January 2000, the U.S senate declared it to be “National Biotechnology Month”. There are people who have started to protest against genetically engineered food and have theories that genetic food consumed could have problems in the long run. The genetic engineering method was brought about and the farms tend to say that genetic food should not need to be labeled because it is the same as other original crops. The Government said that bioengineered food is not a danger to people and should not be labeled because it does not need a category. Three companies were put in charge to regulate these crops but most believed they were only half-heartedly regulating. Many Foundations have come forth to speak about genetic crops should be labeled and that they have the right to know what is in the food they buy. They believe that genetic crops can be contaminated. People have stopped eating any genetic food and caused an uproar. Genetic pollution has contaminated their crops and they had mutations that affected the crops in a negative way. The Mexican Government confirmed through independent study that genetic pollution was affected the crops negatively. People have found farmers accidentally growing government crops because the way pollen travels vast distances and have been charged money for illegally using their crops. The pollen that crops produced became so infected that the just the pollen was dangerous to Monarch Butterflies and killed them. There have been cases of the consumption of corn would make people sterile is digested. That corn became regulated as only pet food due to the negative affects it had on the body. The corn has been found in various supplies of corn products and has been recalled. The corn became to hard to segregate from animal food to human food and most farms did not to deal with the work of segregated them. The companies believed it was easier to give people genetic seeds than to teach them how to make the crops fresh based on that is was more complex to teach. People believe that they should go back to their roots and grow crops the natural way and have more hands on farming process instead of genetic crops. Most small farms are hands on with their crops and use natural growing crops and stay away from genetic crops to keep a natural feel and giving pure crops to the community. The Live Power Community Farm is a community farm that practices the natural growth of crops and the community works together to keep a fresh produce. Genetically engineered food is taking over but there are people still fighting to keep to have an agriculture movement where people want to bring back delicious and fresh food.
