Abstract

This paper will discuss the legal and ethical issues within a business. As a manager, you should be aware of ethical standards and policies within your company. If you feel that there are issues that will potentially cause harm to someone, it is your duty to voice your concerns and see that the issues at hand are resolved in a timely manner.

International Legal and Ethical Issues in Business

Have you ever been faced with an ethical issue in the workplace and unsure how to approach your team about it? Chances are many of you have at some point in time. When faced with issues, such as defective products, it is best to voice your concerns immediately

(AIU Online, 2012).

To begin, request a one on one meeting with the CEO. Notify him/her of the concerns regarding the safety issues surrounding the products errors (Advameg, 2012). After speaking with the CEO, it is imperative to establish a plan of action, as to how this will be addressed. With an established plan, you have the ability to oversee that the steps needed to resolve the issues at hand are implemented in a timely manner (Anthony, 2011).

The next step would be to arrange a meeting to address the directors and managers. The meeting will allow you to explain the issues regarding the defective products and implement the plan of correction immediately (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). It is important to involve the entire team in the plan of correction, which can be done by asking suggestions, questions, etc. It is also extremely important to refrain from blaming one another and to discontinue the products immediately (AIU Online, 2012). A timeline should be created to assist in determining what, when and where, the problem began. A course of action should be implemented for those, who did not report the issues in the beginning. Had the issues been addressed in a timely manner, much of the time and money would not be wasted (Advameg, 2012).

The team must determine the magnitude of the problem. Reviewing production totals, identifying where and when all shipments were placed, and if there were any issues documented beforehand? As a manager you must determine if there were any policies or procedures implemented, if so, were they intentionally ignored? Once these steps have occurred, an appointed individual should be briefed on the situation and well informed of every action implemented (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). Rather than waiting for the news to leak, it is best to address the public and media quickly. When a company initiates a news alert to notify the public, it reflects their honesty, responsibility and commitment to their consumers (AIU Online, 2012).

In order to gain control over the situation it is best inform consumers of the defective product, by ordering a mass recall (AIU Online, 2012). By ordering a mass recall you have the ability to inform the public of the defective product and notify them that a plan of correction was implemented at the company's request (Advameg, 2012). It is crucial that your consumer base continues to trust the company and purchase future products. The ultimate goal reflecting the plan of correction is to ensure the overall importance of safety for their customers and to redeem the trust of its consumers (Advameg,
