In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon the main character Christopher Boone changes in many different ways. Christopher is a fifteen-year-old boy who struggles to communicate with other people due to his Asperger’s syndrome. Christopher proves to all of us that just because he has a disability it doesn’t mean he can’t figure out a way to interact and feel the same way other humans do. Throughout the novel, Christopher shows us that he no longer wants to be someone who relies on other people to guide him through life. Christopher also starts to gain confidence in himself, he starts to try new thing no matter if he thinks he will fail or be successful. Lastly, Christopher transforms from being scared of the real world, to exploring the world on his own.

Christopher grows and changes in many positive way from the beginning of the novel to the end. He found a way to break out of the chains that his disability was holding him back. In the beginning of the novel we see Christopher interact and discover only in a way that his disability allows him too. Right in the beginning of the book Christopher shows us how tough it is for him to interact when he had a dilemma with the officer, “The policeman said, ‘ I am going to ask you once again…’

“I rolled onto the lawn and pressed my forehead to the ground again and made the noise that my father calls groaning. I make this noise when there is too much information coming into my head from the outside world”’(Haddon 7). Even though Christopher actually has no clue how to react to the situation, the officer doesn’t understand his disability and how he acts. When Christopher doesn’t follow the officers demands he starts to think that Christopher is joking around.
