With a musty, slightly moldy smell, the run-down steel building began to fill with eager, seemingly rabid heavy metal fans hungry for the shrill, even piercing, sounds of wailing guitars and guttural vocals. The air was pulsing with electric excitement. The energy of the room was elevated, such as if merely grazing another's arm would sent bolts of lightning flashing through the room, igniting the very air. The lights went down, the crowd became silent in reverent devotion. The pungent smell of bodies that were beginning to sweat in pure anticipation, filled the air. The energy, the silence, and the smell all collided in the room at once with the drawing of the curtain and the first explosion of light and sound. This provoked the onslaught of bodies against bodies in a violent, frenzied fashion.

i suppose it was supposed to be a movie that was indicitive of the times and the shadowed status of women in society. women had no independence and educating them was more or less, simply a hobby up until they were married off. this is then contrast to the fact that most of these women in the college were highly intellectual and well informed of the arts. julia roberts character tries to break through this and challenge these womens point of veiw, attempting to open them up to the potential they have to be strong and intelligent women who are not simply reliant on their marriages.

my reaction? well, feminist movements with julia roberts arent really my cup of coffee. i think they selected her as an actor because she has a weakness about her, which is obvious during the scene where she first enters the classroom with her slides. they probably could have used a stronger actor to portray such a strong-minded women who had the strength to stand against the opression of women.

In a classical or other low-intensity concert however, talking and moving around are a big distraction to those around you. When attending such a concert keep these seven simple rules in mind.
