Correction based facilities such as the prison are costing our government too much money to house criminals. For example, in Iowa it is address that the prison there is over crowed and they are seeking to create another sanction to house the criminals. Iowa has nine facilities in which all are overcrowded. Each state is different when it comes to sentencing an offender. Iowa is looking for ways to house some prisoners that have committed some kind of offense and has cost them to have to serve so many years to the state. The money that goes towards these programs is suppose to help with keeping these prisoners of the street. It's sad that they have to keep building more prison to keep criminals of the street because they can't afford to do away with the offender because he or she may go back on the streets and commit the same crime or another crime. All prisons are over capacity, ranging from 82 at Fort Dodge Correctional Facility to 413 at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale (KCCI News). This will cost a fortune to do and the sad part about it is we are in a recession and these prisons are still going to be built. The only good thing out of it would be more jobs. These prisons will keep multiplying and as long as they are multiply the crimes will also. Although, the offenders have to be housed somewhere. Its just sad that our money has to go toward prisoners because officials feel they are getting out of hand in the prisons because there isn't enough room; when there are people struggling to make ends meet and they are worried about the lives of offenders in prison. Officials should worry about how immates are with each other in prison; if they would not have committed a crime they would not be in prison worried protecting themselves from other immates that are worst off than they are.
