The American Won

Did the British lose the war of independence or did the Americans win their independence? If war is defined as, the use of organized tactical strategies to achieve political goals between nations, it is easily understood that the Americans won the war. By further look at the fall of New York, the fall of Philadelphia, and the alliance with France this will become easier to comprehend.

The fall of New York was one of the strongest tactical strategies used in the war of independence by the Americans. Washington knew he needed the full support of the colonies if he planned on wining this war. However he also knew that it was impossible to defend New York. The land that the city of New York was established on is a joke. New York is mainly consisted of high grounds and mostly islands. Washington new if he did not defend this area from attack that he would lose the support of the people of the region. In knowledge of everything going agents him, Washington defended the city. This was an important move on Washington's part, for he could tell New York "I tried but I loss, maybe if I had more men..." to gain and keep control of the support of the colonies.

Unlike the fall of New York, the fall of Philadelphia was not planed. The fall and move of the capital was a tricky move made by Washington during the war of independence. The tactic behind this was that Washington wanted the war to last longer and to not lose. The colonies needed to be perceived as a separate nation from the British if they wished to win the war in a political aspect. The Americans did not know how to fight like "men" nor were they able to even if they did. To stand in an open field and have volley after volley shot at you was not an option to the Americans. They did not have the man power to fight as the British wished they would. These men were mainly farmers and young boys also; they did not understand military tactics let alone how to right face. The American needed someone who had experience to back them on the war field.
