Chapter 5 I thought so far is one of the most important lecture that we have gone through because language determines everything in life. How we think and carrie ourselves through relationships, business matters, and everyday conversations. One thing in particular that caught my attention is how we use our language towards women we tend to "use more joking and teasing" when trying to build relationships with women. In my opinion I think us men use this joking around as a form of trying get comfortable with that other person, and by doing so joking or teasing her so that she can get out of her shell, and speak more to you, and have a nicer conversation. I also think women do not practice this type of method because a women tends to be more into the conservative side rather than the out going side. In my opinion this also lead the way into why men have a more dominant role in jobs and why we are able to accomplish tasks, women tend to be quiet and it is why they don't have the same rights or qualities that we men have. I guess you can put it as being more outgoing, and more willing to get out there. I would also like to talk about the importance of Culture and language and how they are indispensable for our life. Culture is a grand total including custom and religion inherited by society, which decides the organization of our life. Language is a system of vocal symbols used for human communication. Language is an important part of culture. However, the relationship between language and culture is more complicated than the relationship of a part and the whole. Language is a carrier of culture. It conveys all the information about culture in verbal and written forms. On the other hand, culture influences and shapes language. Without culture, there is no language. The two interact. As a result, different nations have formed different cultural norms and language patterns. Cultural norms decide the meaning and use of language from aspects such as environment, custom, religion, history and perspective of viewing things. Great chapter thus far, language is very important in our daily lives.
