Motherboard Components Identification Paper

In this manual you will learn the process of replacing the components of a Motherboard on a computer. This will take you step by step on how each component functions. The components are as follows;

* CPU Socket

* Dimm Slots

* Serial ATA Connectors

* Raid Connector

* Power Connector

* Chipset

* IDE Connector

* PCI Expansion Slots

* PCI Express Expansion Slots

* CMOS Battery

CPU Socket

The CPU Socket is used for connecting a phone line or lan cable to a computer so that it can connect to a network. Here are the steps to replace the CPU Socket;

1. Locate the CPU Socket on the motherboard

2. Press the load lever down on the right and shift to the right to release the retention tab, the load lever will move up slightly.

3. Repeat step one except push the lever down to the left

4. Push the right lever down to lift the load plate.

5. Position the CPU over the socket, this will ensure that the triangle mark is aligned to the bottom left corner of the socket.

6. Close the load plate and lock it down by pushing the left load lever. The PnP cap will pop up from the CPU socket automatically, and then hook the left load lever into place.

7. Remove the PnP cap and push the right load lever down and insert it under the retention tab.

8. Place the heatsink on top of the installed CPU and ensure all four fasteners match the holes on the CPU socket.

Dimm Slots

Dimm Slots are used to hold the RAM Random Access Memory modules on a motherboard. These are the steps to replace a Dimm Slot;

1. Find the Dimm slots.

2. Press down and hold the ejector tabs on either side of the module.

3. Remove the module from the slot.

4. To install the new module take it out of the anti-static bag and hold it by the edges.

5. Line up the notches in the row of gold pins at the bottom of the module with the keys of the Dimm slot on the motherboard.

Serial ATA Connector

Serial ATA Connectors are a computer bus interface for connecting host bus adapters to mass storage devices. The steps to replace the Serial ATA Connectors;

1. Find the Serial ATA Connector.

2. Take a small jewelers screw driver and push in the latches on either side of the pin.

3. The pin will slide out of the housing once both latches are down.

4. To replace them pry the latches up so that they are sticking out at a slight angle.

5. Push them back into the plastic housing.

Raid Connector

A Raid Connector allows the energy to flow from the power source to the load. The steps to replacing a Raid Connector are;

1. Carefully slip the hard drive data cables from the raid connector.
