Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' is based on real life incidents and characters filming on the changes of the underworld and how it all started, in the Mumbai of 1970s. 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' is directed by Milan Luthria and the movie is seen through the eyes of a police officer.

Ajay Devagan, Emraan Hasmi, Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai & Randeep Hooda play the lead roles in the movie. The characteristic features of these main leads are inspired by real life characters that we have come across in the headlines. Kangana's role has the glances of the late actress Madhubala & Ajay's character is inspired by real don Haji Mastan and Emraan Hasmi has the shades of the Dawood Ibrahim of younger days.

Ajay Devgan as Sultan Mirza is a poor messiah who fears the rich and power. He was a silent ruler of the streets of Bombay who did everythign wrong but which was right according to him.

Kangana as Rehana is a filmstar who is in deep love with Sultan. She is very bold and fearless beauty who can bring down anything and everything that stands in her way

Emraan Hasmi as Shoib Khan is a powerful local don who threatens everyone and wishes to stand ahead of all to own the power

Prachi Desai as Mumtaz is innocent an innocent confidante of a gulty ruffian, who is entrangled in a web which includes her lover's desier to make it to the top of the crime ladder

Randeep Hooda as Angel Wilson the only man who thought he could save Bombay is none other than ACP Angel Wilson.

Movie Plot

The film is based in the 1970s Mumbai which is about the rise of Sultan and the conflict that crops up when his Shoaib (Hashmi) challenges his supremacy and usurps power to rule the murby underbelly of Mumbai.
