Prejudice - the Miracle Worker

Prejudice is one of the many themes in The Miracle Worker. Prejudice is basically judging a book by its cover so to speak. A person should really never judge a person just by their looks a lone especially if they haven't got to know them yet. There are quite a few examples in The Miracle Worker. One example is when Captain is prejudice towards Annie. When Annie first arrives Captain finds out that she was blind herself. Captain then goes on to say how can a blind person teach another.

Another example of people being prejudice to another is when teachers assumed that Helen was incapable of learning just because her disabilities. This is a very bad example of being prejudice. Those teachers were very wrong for doing such a thing. You should never be prejudice in general but especially when it comes to people who are handicapped or have some type of a disability. It is great that Annie Sullivan could prove all of them wrong and prove that Helen was in fact capable of learning.

The Miracle Worker takes place during the time of the Civil War. The Keller's live in the South. However Annie Sullivan was from the North. A third prejudice example in The Miracle Worker is when the Keller's doubted Annie Sullivan's teaching abilities for the sole fact that she was a Northerner. Nobody where a person is from you shouldn't doubt there abilities or dislike them just because of where there are from.
