Reasons for Applying a Scholarship

Soon I will be joining the hundreds of school leavers entering the world of adults. Childhood seems to have lasted such short time and I wish that it could last longer but it cannot be.

The next phase of my life will require that I choose a career, or at least some kind of employment so that I can become a useful member of society. This presents some difficulties.

I was flipping through the pages of my STAR newspaper when I saw an advertising site about the MNRB Scholarship. I am very interested in the course that the scholarship offers which is actuarial science. This is one of the main reason I am applying for this scholarship.

On top of that, it is my greatest ambition to work with MNRB Holdings. Furthermore, my parents cannot afford to send me overseas to do the course. Therefore, I will have to rely on scholarships if I wish to undergo the course overseas. So, I have to make efforts to see whether these possibilities can be realized. If not I will have to look for other possibilities.

If I am given this scholarship, I will definitely take up actuarial science. There are several reasons for my choice. Firstly, I would like to take this course because it has something to do with mathematical and statistical methods which I'm very interested in. Moreover, mathematics has always interests me in school. Compared to other subjects, my grades in modern and additional mathematics are most convincing. Even my additional mathematics tuition teacher encourages me to take up actuarial science.

However, I also realize that actuarial science is intellectually challenging. But I believe if we are interested in what we are doing, we will definitely look at it as a challenge for ourselves. These are just obstacles we have to face in life.

Secondly, as an actuary, there would be a great variety of jobs available to me. However, I would be greatly honored to be given an opportunity to work with MNRB Holdings Berhad. Actuaries are the analytical backbone of the society's financial security programs. They are the brains behind the financial safeguards that protect the company from life's catastrophes.

In these days of high price and high cost of living, most of us wish to earn as much money as we can, to provide the good things of live for ourselves and our families. We also want to educate our children in the best possible way. All this needs money, which, as an actuary I could earn. As long as there are companies, there will be a need for actuaries , to assess risk in the insurance and finance industries, to evaluate the likelihood of future events, to design creative ways to reduce the likelihood of undesirable events and to decrease the impact of undesirable events that do occur. Therefore, as an actuary, I would have a secure and well paid job.
