Rock Balboa Speech Analysis

Rocky Balboa is a retired boxer thats is lonely and emotionally depressed. His own son blows him off because he feels he only gets anywhere in life because his dad is a famous boxer. This hurts Rocky and after loosing his wife, just to know his own son wants nothing to do with him, is heart breaking. The only person he really has in life is his wife's brother, which he is old and senile, so he's left alone. Rocky owns a little restraunt and lets fighters and people who are poor eat for free, so you can tell he is a wonderful, kind hearted person. He meets someone and she makes him so much happier. He invites her to work at the restraunt because she really doesn't have much and needs a job. She makes his life worth living again and he gets the urge to fight again, just some small local places, nothing to extravagant.

This is where the speech comes in. He goes to the commission chair to persuade them into giving him his boxing license. He took many test. The chairpersons said he passed them with flying colors, but they denied his application. ''I mean you think thats right? I mean you're doing your job, but why you gotta stop me from doing mine?'' This is a rhetorical question, Rocky is furious that he spent all this time taking test trying to prove himself worthy only to be rejected. He doesn't understand why they would say he passed but they wont give him a license. He goes on to say ''Cause if you're willing to go through all the battling you gotta go through to get where you wanna get-Who's got the right to stop you?'' Meaning no one has the right to tell you that you cant be who you want to be and live out your dream. If you're willing to fight for what you stand for then no one can stand in your way.

''I mean maybe some of you guys got something you never finished, something you really wanna do, Something you never said to somebody--somethin!'' Rocky uses the word something to emphasize that there is something you have always wanted to do but couldn't or didn't, but now someone has the chance and you are telling them no. He is told no after he has worked so hard to get to this stage. But after Rocky leaves when he gives his speech the commission chair rethinks their answer and decides to give him his boxing license.

The news of this comes out and a local sports news channel comes out with a analysis of a new young fighter verses Rocky. The results came out to be that rocky lost, but people encouraged him to take a risk and really fight him. He thought it through and realized he wanted to show people no matter how old you are you can do anything you set your mind to do. So he trained extremely hard everyday and night. One hundred percent devotion. Then finally the big day comes! He is going to box the undefeated champion. Its starts off
