Sohrab Point of View

My father died a short time ago, my mother who was shot right after my father Hassan. I still remember when me and him did all this fun stuff. One day when Taliban came to my master's house which my dad took care of, a Taliban officer told him to leave and my dad refused. And from that day on I am left alone without parents. I was transferred to an orphanage, in which they had more children than beds. Although I was only there for the shortest time, I had realized how kids starved in this place. There was no money, the head guy of the orphanage had to sell children to the Taliban's. And that is what was done with me, I heard them speak of it.

"We need children! The commander has sent us to take as many children and in return we shall give you enough money," said a Taliban.

Zaman, with no doubt in his mind, "Oh, yes of course. I have enough children. Times are rough here and I would need that money, take as many kids as you need."

I had a feeling I was going to be picked, I had just arrived here and Zaman was probably going to give me away. When I was taken away by the Taliban it was my life scariest moment, I had a feeling that they are going to do the same as they did to my father.

"Come here you useless child, you will now do as I say," said one of the officers.

The Taliban made me dance and made me do duties until they told me to stop. The food they gave me was really little and I prayed to god that I wish I had someone who came and helped me. They kept me in a place where there was blood of people, dead bodies. I had even forgotten where I was before this, I was depressed wondering if I will ever get out of this horrible place. All I could think about is my mother and father. Wondering if I was just destined to live how my father did. Although we were great human beings we were left to suffer in this world.

Months went by without a sign of anyone coming for me.

But one day god has listened to me; a man who looks like my father's age arrived at the door step of the Taliban room. He talked with the boss or the head officer of Taliban, I didn't even think he was here to save me, I just thought he was a member of the Taliban. Just until I heard my name from his mouth, I thanked god right away. While he entered the room I looked at him as I was dancing. He argued with the officer and then got into a fight with him because the man wanted to take me. I heard them speak and argue right in front of me, I wondered why this man had come for me. Although I mostly tuned them out as they were arguing I heard a bit of the conversation. The man that had come for me was named Amir,

"Amir, why have you come for this child in particular?" said the officer.

I
