The book Son of the Mob took place in 2002 and written by Gordon Korman. Vince Luca is the main character.

This book is about a normal high school senior trying to fit in. The thing is his family is in the mob. Vince's dad is the leader of the mob, and his whole family is affiliated in the mob. His family tried to hide it from him thought his childhood years by calling it the vending machines business. Whenever Vince would ask were dad would go in the middle of the night his mom would say "another vending machine broke down again" or something among those lines. When Vince got older he found out what his dad really does and he doesn't like it. Vince always said that he would never follow in the footsteps of his family.

His mobster family always did something to mess up Vince's life. Everybody giving Vince a break because they were scared that his father would kill them. There were many things that went wrong because of the mob. Vince once went on a date and he found a dead body in his trunk. His date so disgusted she made Vince take her home. On the way home the police were checking cars for alcohol bottles in the cars and Vince had a dead body the dead body in the trunk. He got lucky and the cops found something else in someone else's car and let Vince go by without being checked.

Vince tried to play football for his high schools team. He made the team and was the 3rd string running back. The coach found out that Vince's dad was a leader of the mob and made Vince starting running back even thought he wasn't the best running back. His life in the Luca family was different from any other family.

Even though Vince avoided the life of the mob. He was always some how involved with it. From transferring money to having an untraceable phone that was stolen. Vince had a nice girlfriend that meant a lot to him. Her dad was an F.B.I. agent and she saw photos of him doing mob related things and she broke up with him. The end of the story one of dad's mobsters ends up being an undercover agent. Agent Bite-Me one of Vince's dads mob partners is an undercover F.B.I agent. He comes out and only tells Vince that he has been spying on the family the entire time he has been there. He pulls out a cassette tape and plays it in front of Vince. It has his father, mother, and other people voices that Vince doesn't even know. They were planning a murder. Towards the end of the tape Agent Bite-Me left the tape out and someone recorded over the end of it. If the person did not record over it, it would have been enough to put the Luca family in prison.

I disliked the book Son of the Mob. It was like you could predict what was going to happen next. The moral of the story was guilty by association. People that know you
