Understanding Literature

There are many positive benefits about understanding literature. To me, the most important part about literature is the lessons it teaches the readers. There are a variety of lessons taught throughout literature, which is one of the many reasons why I enjoy literature. It helps readers have a better understanding and knowledge about life. The life lessons they adapt from the teachings of literature is used in everyday life. Today, many do not have the time or are simply just not interested in reading literature, but they need to realize how vital it is to an individual's everyday life.

The movie, Matilda, is a great movie showing how literature can be both beneficial and entertaining. The character Matilda, had unpleasing parents who was always demanding, but one thing that did keep her on the up side was reading books. She greatly enjoyed reading them, and finished several both in just a day. Her knowledge from reading many books got the attention of her teacher. As life had progressed for her, she became even more interested in reading books. The problem with today's society is that people are doing the complete opposite of Matilda's lifestyle. They are too busy watching television or spending time on the computer that they do not have the time to sit back and read a book for entertainment.

Literature is truly an important part of a person's life and has many benefits. It teaches individuals how to live a positive and successful lifestyle. To be honest, I have read many books throughout my life and it has improved several parts of my life such as vocabulary and decision making. Having knowledge about vocabulary is extremely vital, especially when it comes time to writing the SAT's. Therefore, literature should be recognized more by people, for it will only be positively effective.
