Euthanasia

All around the world people of all ages and ethnicities are considering or performing suicidal actions. People are suffering from different things and believe that death will fix it all. Suicidal actions are also used to get rid of pain. Euthanasia is one of these ways many people "solve their problems". It is controversial because of how it is preformed, why it is used, what different kinds there are, and what the effects are.

Many people have heard of euthanasia being used around the world, but have no clue as to what it is. Euthanasia is a way for a person who is "suffering" to be killed "painlessly" (Webster 395). It can be performed by shots called lethal injections, which people react to differently. When the shots are injected it may take seconds to days to work properly. Known as assisted suicide, euthanasia is just another way for someone to commit suicide. It is less painful and usually quicker than the typical ways people kill themselves in private. People see this as a better way to kill them voluntarily because it isn't as tragic and painful; unlike suicide euthanasia isn't as painful but is still private. This way of killing originates from Hitler's "Mercy Killing" during the Holocaust (Nazi Euthanasia 1). As he took power he began killing large numbers of people, which according to him, didn't meet standards of what perfect was. He would arrange for people with disabilities or imperfections to be put in a shower like area and inhale deadly fumes (Euthanasia 10). The people and families were clueless of what was happening at the time and didn't find out until it was too late. People over the age of two who showed signs of disease, injury, or any syndromes would be taken to the chambers to be killed (Euthanasia 8). This way of killing was known as "Aktion T 4" (Euthanasia 2). As time has evolved, so has the technology and ways of killing people.

Euthanasia is used for many different reasons. The main reason people perform or want euthanasia is because they are suffering from major pain. This pain can be caused by an illness or previously received injury they have received. Euthanasia can be a consequence for serious criminal cases. These cases include things that happen in jail or what a criminal is convicted of. When it is said on the news that a person has committed a bad enough crime and has been placed on the death penalty, they use lethal injection to kill the person which is what is used in any other euthanasia case. Although it would seem only people being forced or needing of euthanasia would have to deal with going through the effects, other people want it to be used on them. These people are suffering mentally of things that have happened in their lifetime and they figure that the only way to deal with their pain is to bring death on them. People will do anything to deal with their problems even if it involves ending their life, usually in a painful way.

Euthanasia is usually performed by lethal injections, which are shots of strong medicine that put the person into a deep sleep, paralyze their diaphragm, or reduce the electrical signals needed to work the heart. If the person is a criminal having euthanasia performed by the prison, they will be strapped to a gurney. After being strapped down, the criminal will have IVs connected to their bodies which insert the drugs. The drugs used to kill the person are Pentothal, Pavulon, or Potassium Chloride (Ask the Editor 1). Each drug controls and affects the body differently. If the person is having assisted suicide performed they can go to a doctor. There are different kinds the euthanasia is being performed. Involuntary euthanasia is performed against a person's wishes. The doctor does this if they know the person will being dying of a slow and painful death and it's better for them to go ahead
