Five Pillars of Islam

The first of the Five Pillars of Islam is that of belief also called Iman. This means "there is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God." Muslims are required to witness to those who are unfamiliar with Muhammad in order to bring them into their religion.

The second of the Five Pillars of Islam is that of prayer also called Salah. This means that faithful Muslims must pray five times a day, the faithful are to perform ritual ablutions with water, face Mecca, and recite a series of prayers and passages from the Qur'an, bowing and kneeling.

The third of the Five Pillars of Islam is Zakat, this means that all Muslims are required and obligated to give to the poor and or needy. Zakat is said to be similar to the Christian practice of tithing but Muslims do not have to give the same percentage amount.

The fourth of the Five Pillars of Islam is Sawn or fasting. Frequent fasting is recommended by all Muslims. Ramadan is when all Muslims have an obligation to fast and this is for a month, a month without sexual intercourse, food, drink, and smoking. Ramadan is to allow the body to rid itself from impurities.

The fifth of the Five Pillars of Islam is Hajj or Pilgrimage. Muslims from all four corners of the earth are expected to visit Mecca if they are financially able. Once Muslims have arrived in Mecca they will then, wear special clothes so, there is no distinctions of class or culture.

I believe that I would be able to fulfill the First of the Five Pillars of Islam the easiest if I were a Muslim. I would not have a problem with telling people of my religion because all I would be doing is witnessing to them. The fourth of the Five Pillars would be the most challenging because I would be able to abstain from all of the above the sexual intercourse, smoking, and maybe the drink but I will need some water but I would not be able to go without food for a month.
