Capitalism in Process:

Furnishing a Better Life for the Animals in Animal Farm

In the classic novel Animal Farm, George Orwell wrote about "These three [pigs who] had elaborated old Major's teachings into a complete system of thoughts, to which they gave the name of Animalism" (16). This system was for the purpose of granting equality to all animals and giving them freedom. Furthermore the corruption of Animalism and the balance of animals have been slowly destroyed from the absolute power of Napoleon, a dictator. A sufficient political system known as Capitalism will work best because it will provide freedom, property rights and most of all, the increase of economic growth.

According to Milton Friedman's quote, "History suggests that capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom;" this can be applied to the animals' lifestyle in the novel Animal Farm. This political system will work best in Animal Farm because it provides the animals the freedom to live or do what they desire. The animals can now take control of their own lives or make decisions on what they think is best for them rather than having someone else deciding for them. "[The chickens] protested that to take the eggs away now was murder... [Napoleon] ordered the hens' rations to be stopped, and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by death" (Orwell 76). This example gives a glimpse of how the animals were mistreated and threatened; the chickens did not have the freedom to protest and even if they tried, they were being jeopardized. In order to prevent this event from happening, these animals should use Capitalism because this political system will give them the power to choose their own path and make their own decision. If Capitalism were implemented in this situation it will change their whole life from being abusive to freedom. On account of their rights and desires, Capitalism will allow the chickens to have the freedom to rebel or protest against having their eggs taken away.

The benefit of the animals using Capitalism as their political system is that "Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned" (Rand 11). This quote defines property rights as owning an individual property or the reward an individual receives for their hard work. As a matter of fact, rewards come into play for those who work hard and put effort into achieving a higher standard in economics. In the novel Animal Farm, the animals were being overworked and being taken advantaged:

But still neither pigs nor dogs produced any food by their own labour; and there were very many of them, and their appetites were always good. As for the others, their life, so far as they knew, was as it had always been. They were generally hungry, they slept on straw, they drank from the pool, they laboured in the fields; in winter
