In Great Expectations a young child an orphan named Pip who lived with his sister and brother in law. The village of Blacksmith. On Christmas Eve Huck is walking down through the marshes when he meets an escaped convict, Huck quickly finds out. The convict threatens him and tells him that he wants food and a file to break off the leg irons he wore. The very next day Christmas Day the convict is caught and captured, and is returned back to the prison ships known as The Hulks. He doesn't reveal that Pip helped his escape from his leg irons. Much later Pip is sent to entertain Mrs. Havishman a old wealthy lady who lives in a mansion. Mrs. Havishman is in fact quite bitter and sour who is stuck in the past of her wedding day. She was Jilted. Still wearing her wedding gown and having her cake stuck sit atop her dining room table. Her adopted daughter Estella is gorgeous and Pip instantly falls in love with her at first glance. Estella is indeed cold and distant because of the ways Mrs. Havishman is bringing her up to be. Overtime she starts to come around to Pip more but soon tells him that she can never love anyone. Pip is later dismissed from Mrs. Havishmam's service and becomes an apprentice to Joe. He longs to be a gentleman, not a blacksmith. One day he learns that an anonymous benefactor has left him a huge chunk of money, he then moves to London. There in London he is trained to be a gentleman. A lawyer named Jaggers is supposed to see his inheritance. Pip was almost positive that Mrs. Havishmam was his secret benefactor and that he was being trained to be Estellas future husband. Pip at this point in his life was extremely happy when he moved to London. Pip is now away from the only family he ever knew. He is educated by Mr. Mathew Pocket and develops a great friendship with his son Herbert. His wealth and position soon leads Pip into this life of emptiness. He is very much ashamed of Joe and Biddy and doesn't want to much to do with them, thinking that it will lower his image if he is acquainted with them. Estells continues to be a powerful factor in his life. Estella has been trained by Mrs. Havishmam to be a heartbreaker, and even though she tells Pip she is unable to love anyone he still pursuits her love. On Pips 24th birthday he learns that his benefactor was not Mrs. Havishmam but the convict from so long ago that he encountered. Pip might be ashamed of the convict but is still loyal and grateful for everything he has done. In return Pip commits himself to helping Magwitch the convict stay away from the police. He soon realizes that he is not meant for Estella. Pip being tricked by Mrs. Havishmam feels very tense. At this point in time Pip starts realizing many things about him self that has been wrong. He has been a bad friend to Joe and has neglected his only family and friends left. Pip decides that he can no longer take Magwitches money. He becomes sympathetic towards the convict, realizing the deep love he has for
