The rapid development of industries in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries was called the industrial revolution. This was the start of machinery and was one of the most momentous events in history because there was change in how goods were produced. England's industrialization was very successful because they had, favorable geographic conditions like harbors, a colonial empire which provided raw materials and markets, capital that gave merchants the ability to invest in new business, labor supply , and many natural resources like iron ore and coal.

Iron ore, coal, wood and water were just some of the natural resources in England. The first machines used water to function. Due to the fast production of goods, more products had to be created. Also it created more jobs for farmers that could not work. England was profuse with coal mines and coal was a valuable source of energy to fuel machinery. Coal let to more factories and more mass production. Another natural resource that was used was iron. The production of iron was possible because of the recent advancements in uses of coal to produce iron from iron ore. Iron was used to build machinery in factories. This made for durable and log lasting machines that would break so easily.

Another big part of the industrial revolution was England's colonial empire. The colonies provided raw materials, for example cotton, and were then sent to factories to make products such as socks. After that, the finish products were sent back to the colonies to be sold and people would make a profit. The investment of capital made more factories, and was the start of new inventions to aid their businesses.

The Enclosure Acts were a series of Acts passed by the Parliament which enclosed open fields and common land in the country. This told people that they cannot farm. Since they couldn't farm they went to cities looking to work in factories. There was a very high job demand, So there were many jobs available for old farmers.
