If I could have done anything different with my portfolio now that I have finished this course, I would have invested most of my money in mutual funds. Right now mutual funds have proven to do better than stocks or bonds.
When I invested the money at the beginning of the course, I just picked some stocks of companies that I knew. After taking this class, I have realized how much studying and planning goes into buying and selling shares. I thing that I would have looked at before buying anything would be the 52 week high and low to determine how well the stock is doing. If I thought the stock was underpriced, I would buy the stock thinking that the price will go up. If the stock was overpriced, I would sell short thinking the price would go down.
At the beginning of the class I would have considered myself to be more risk adverse because I didn't really know anything about investing and didn't want to lose any money. Knowing what I know now, I would be more willing to take risk because I know with higher risk comes greater rewards. I feel more confident in investing now even though I had a slight loss in my portfolio. Once I was able to make changes to my portfolio, I was able to make some of the money back to almost break even because I used the knowledge that I know now. I thought this portfolio project was very helpful and I learned a lot about investing. It is different when you actually do your own portfolio then just learning about doing it.
