Why do we need computers? Computers have become essential in this day and age, we use computer to check emails, for social networking purposes, for banking and for many others things. Computers have played a major part in businesses today; in fact many organisations would struggle to excel if they did not use them. For example, companies would have to employ more staff to carry out repetitive tasks that a computer could do rapidly and effectively .What are management information systems (MIS)? According to Daft 2010, management can be defined as a computer based system that provides information and support for effective managerial decision making. Why do organisations need MIS? Management Information Systems are designed to help managers with decision making and to provide a system to record information to help achieve company goals. In this essay, I am going to compare and contrast between two different types of Management Information Systems; Executive Information Systems (EIS) and Decision Support Systems (DSS).

Executive Information System is a computer based system that serves information needs of executives within an organisation, they are essential for businesses to excel (Wang et al, 2008). The software is designed to provide easy access to large amounts of data and can also analyse and present data in an accepted amount of time.
