The legalization or decriminalization of marijuana is one of the most important topics. When it comes down to the youth vote, which is extremely major, people who are considered at the "youth vote" age range, would only listen to the things that they want to hear. I believe that marijuana is the most important topic of the important topics that people want to hear because marijuana has increasingly become a large topic over the years. And because most of the people that use that drug are under the age of 25. It would be a key topic to cover to help the youth know if they want Obama to finish his second term, or if the want him out of office and to have Romney as president.

Barack Obama has views that favor what the youth would want. Obama wants to decriminalize marijuana. He used to smoke marijuana frequently, so he has the true experience of what it does to you and how harmless it is. The decriminalization of marijuana would slow the arrest rate down. It also can potentially stop the overcrowding in jails and prisons that America has been experiencing in the past decade. All of this favors what most of the youth would want because they are the people getting locked away for these pointless crimes. Why try to stop something that can not and will not be stopped, or slowed down?

Mitt Romney wants to leave the marijuana laws as it already is. The problem with that is it does not save money. Saving money is not easy to come by in the economy that we are in today. Putting money towards the war on marijuana in particular, is not a wise idea because the dealing and use of marijuana will never be stopped and/or slowed down.

More than 800,000 people get arrested for marijuana related crimes in America per year. That is roughly 97 people per hour. Over 33 billion dollars are spent on the war on drugs each year. About one-fourth of that price can be cut if marijuana is decriminalized. The saved money can be put forth to more important issues that are going on in our country, and the jails and prisons can be used for real criminals. This is one of the major reasons why Obama should be elected again for his 2nd term as the President of the United States.
