Media literacy exercise- Music video

The music video I chose is called "On n' on" from a French electronic band named Justice. This song has vintage disco and funky style combined with a soft male vocals. The whole music video was all in a long take, audience couldn't see any cut and edits in this music video. In my opinion the title of this song explains the theme of the video, everything goes on and on.

The song is about birth, aging, and maturation as well as love and lust. In the video, there are lots of elements such as naked women, flesh (both animal and human beings), diamond and gold, universe, skulls, Mayan temple, aurora and so on. If we don't look at the lyrics it's a really trippy video. But when we look at the lyrics, all these elements can be related to each other.

"Before day break there were none, and as it broke there was one, from moon to sun, it goes on 'n' on." The planets and universe background symbolize the creation of the world and human civilization continues to evolve, never stopping.

"The winter battle was won, the summer children were born, and so the story goes on 'n' on, come on woman with your life beats, those we buried with the house keys, smoke and feather where the fields are green, from here to eternity" This part of the lyrics makes me thinking about the story of Adam and Eve. The diamond and gold represent seductions for women symbolic of the apple on the tree, just like Eve seduced by the snake to eat the apple. The same story still goes on and on in many different forms throughout history.

There are many metaphors relating plants and seasons to life and aging. "Someday the grapes will be wine" is a clear example, in my opinion to refer to aging. They also use the grape reference again with, "Come on woman in your own time, Far, far, far from the virgin vine," suggesting that the woman needs time to mature, to change from a girl into a beautiful woman. The allusion is that a good wine is matured with aged and the same thing for a good woman. A women needs time to get herself together, to structure her life or get her head straight.
