Personality includes a complex collection of emotional, mental, and behavioral characteristics that establishes a person as an individual. Personality comprises a variety of characteristics that helps to categorize a person as a unique human being. Scientific Personality theories initiate that although some outside elements can influence how personality traits articulate, personality develops from within an individual. Aspects of personality tend to change over time; however, maturity enhances personality characteristics throughout life. Personality psychologists show the unique characteristics of individuals, similarities between groups of people, and theoretical concepts that prove through scientific observations personality factors.

Personality Defined and Overview

Psychologists' perspective addresses three issues when defining personality; human universals, individual differences, and individual uniqueness (Cervone & Lawrence, 2010). Psychologists envision personality in terms of theoretical concepts that contain supported scientific observation and based on knowledge that deems logical, testable, comprehensive, and applicable in real life. The way normal everyday people use the term "personality" seems quite different from the way personality psychologists define the term. Everyday people make observations of other people to determine the kind of personality they have; consequently, our text refers to this as a value judgment. Implicating that value judgment knowledge trying to figure out someone's personality deems not factual information. The same questions become applicable between value judgment and personality theorists, but rarely expand deeper asking the questions of why or how of a given issue. Concerning value judgment, people display bias that comes from their own beliefs, values, and knowledge level.

Methods to Studying Personality

Personality includes the characteristic configurations of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make a unique individual. Personality ascends from the inner core of the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life. In viewing the ways that psychologists study personality there are three most commonly used methods: case studies, correlational designs, and experimental designs or true experiments. Individual in case studies observation entails great detail with in-depth analyzes. The psychologist has extensive contact with subject in hope to understanding the psychological configuration that makes up the individual's personality characteristics. Case studies frequently conducted for clinical treatment but also used solely for research purposes (Cervone & Lawrence, 2010). To assist in helping consumers' psychologist must gain an understanding from the clients' perspective of what his or her needs comprise. .

Correlational research strategy consists of examining the relations among variables in a large population of people, which none contain manipulation. Correlation examines the relation between variables and defines if there contains any given connection among each. This strategy includes questionnaires, test scores, etc. The studies of correlational designs allow direct interpretations about population dissimilarities and indirect interferences about causes (Feldman & Hass, 1971). Correlation involves controls of comparable forms to support complete collection of interloping and psychological interpretation.

The controlled experiments: experimental designs or true experiments; one of the great achievements of science. Randomly participants get assigned to an experimental condition that contains different conditions in which manipulation occurs. People in different conditions respond inversely to the same variable; consequently, the variable influences their responses (Cervone & Pervin, 2010).
