1) ROLE OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Pride and Prejudice is, first and foremost, a novel about surmounting obstacles and achieving romantic happiness. For Elizabeth, the heroine, and Darcy, her eventual husband, the chief obstacle resides in the book's original title: First Impressions. Darcy, the proud, prickly noblewoman's nephew, must break free from his original dismissal of Elizabeth as "not handsome enough to tempt me," and from his class-based prejudice against her lack of wealth and family connections. Elizabeth's first impressions, meanwhile, catalogue Darcy as arrogant and self-satisfied; as a result, she later accepts slanderous accusations against him as true.

Elizabeth's first impression of Darcy at the ball is very bad , she takes him to be a proud arrogant and self-centered man. This is mainly because of the comments made by other people about Darcy , Darcy only to have danced with 2 ladies who were from his company and the comment on Elizabeth by Darcy saying ''she is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me''. This leads Elizabeth to believe everything bad anyone said about Mr. Darcy even though it was not true. She would not even believe her own sister 's justification of Darcy. Which leads her to believing in Wickham's story causing many obstacles between Darcy and her.

While on the other side Elizabeth's first impression of Wickham was very good. She took Wickham to be a hardworking, charming and sensible soldier. Which was not true and this also leads her to believe that Darcy has deprived him of his rights to become a clergyman.

The book is mainly about the obstacles created by first impressions in a love story and how the main characters come over these problems and get married. The novel shows us the way people judged new people they meet by their wealth. the novel shows that if a young man with a large fortune into the neighborhood ,the first impression on people of the society was that he is very successful and in need of a wife. They believed the man to be the property of one of their daughter.

This is a love story about Elizabeth and Darcy the way they fall in love.
