Riordan Manufacturing - Information Technology (it) Security

Riordan Manufacturing has individual branches that sequentially depend on each other's information to perform daily actions. The employment of an integrated database to house all the data this should save the corporation both money and time. Currently all records should be incorporated into electronic documents so they can be available within the database. Each branch will have their own database; each database will be available for other branches once they have been verified. All locations of Riordan Manufacturing will have their databases implemented at the same time and will be able to access each site through their network connection.

The HR department retains all of Riordan Manufacturing present and prospective employee's information spanning from seniority to payroll. Riordan Manufacturing will employ a legal department database to enhance provided information to Finkel and Litteral; their attorneys. The legal and HR branches will have different accounts that are protected but will team up on any legal matters that are associated to Riordan Manufacturing, its assets, and its employees. The HR branch will be granted access to any documentation and files for all procedures and policies on Riordan Manufacturing.

The marketing and sales departments depend on each other to perform their business. The sales department depends on marketing information to sale their products to the customer. The integrated database will permit both branches to pull up existing and new client information to improve the understanding of which merchandise must be sent to which client. The production department depends on the sales department inputs to enhance the understanding of which merchandise should be in production at any given time to retain the products inventory.

The Riordan Manufacturing also has a separate accounting and finance departments at each site. The corporate office is based out of San Jose where all essential information is sent from accounting and financial results. Every site is consisted of payroll, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing and shipping, financial reporting, procurement, order entry, purchasing, sales history, and general ledger. Additionally, the San Jose corporate office controls the following which is EDI, executive decisions supports system also identified as EDSS, and bar code reading.

It is difficult when all branches use their own accounting and finance departments. Compatibility is a key problem as well as trying to keep track of information from different offices. Every site is using dissimilar programs and the similarity of these programs is a key concern. Riordan Manufacturing does not have a data store and all the information that is required is immediately sent through the network to only their location. This compatibility issue must be attended to and a database store can also be put into operation which will allow Riordan Manufacturing to share and transmit data economically.
