The Missing Key

Tally was a loner, a social outcast that no one talked to nor noticed her existence. It's not that she didn't want to fit in with the others, she just doesn't know how. She had always been alone ever since her beloved grandmother passed away. She thought she was fine all by herself, but deep inside her heart, she knew something was missing, something very important yet unknown.

Today was just another indifferent school day for Tally, or she had thought so. She woke up six in the morning, got ready and left her house at seven. She got to school at least half an hour before all the other students just like always so she wouldn't be a bother for the others. She slowly walked into her classroom, sat down quietly in her seat and looked out the window watching the flock of doves fly freely toward the rising sun. Time passed unnoticeably quickly and students were starting to come into the classroom as class was about to start.

The bell rang at exactly 7:55 AM and the teacher ordered everyone to sit down.

"We have a new student joining us today," Mrs. Gordy, the History teacher, announced. She was a short, middle-aged woman with shoulder-length hair and wore a stern look on her face at all times.

"Let's welcome Holly!" Everyone looked at the doorway and saw a tall girl around 15 years old, straight brown hair and smiling genuinely.

"Hi, I'm Holly, nice to meet you all!" Holly said politely, her bright smile never left her face.

"Holly, please sit next to Tally in the back" Mrs. Gordy ordered.

Tally waved her hand a little signaling Holly to sit next to her.

"Hi! I'm Holly, what's your name?" She asked Tally.

"H-hi, I'm Tally," she replied in a small voice.

"Nice to meet you Tally! Can you show me around the school after class?"

"S-sure."

As Tally promised, she showed Holly around the school after class. She found out that Holly is a very joyful person, the opposite of herself, and Tally knows that she'll have lots of friends in no time. Throughout the whole trip Holly was talking to her nonstop.

"Don't you think I'm boring?" Tally finally had the courage to ask.

"Not at all, you're just a quiet person." Holly replied and continued with her previous topic.

No one had ever talked to her for so long and didn't get bored, it was different, but she kind of liked it. It's like she made a friend. Friend? Such a strange word, Tally thought. Good times would always come to an end;
