WELCOME SPEECH FOR NEW STUDENTS.

YOU ARE THE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AND IT IS FRESH MEN MONTH.

The start of a new academic year is always an exciting and energizing time for me and this year is no different. I’m Katrina Rose Vidal, dean of the Student affairs, and I’m so pleased to welcome you all to SPUD, for what I know will be one of the most dynamic and influential times of your life.

The past few months have been a time of planning for the Student affairs, as we prepare for the future with a new strategic mission and vision. We have spent a good deal of time thinking about what it means to be an expert of your courses in the 21st century, and we are taking the steps necessary to get to that future.

And you are all part of helping us realize our vision.

As a member of the Student Affairs you are now part of a community of scholars that is engaged, dynamic and supportive and I encourage you to become an active member of this amazing group of students, faculty and staff through your participation both in and out of the classroom.

SPUD’s incredibly talented faculty will be your guides and allies on your journey of inquiry. They are the university’s greatest resource. The scholars here are leaders in their fields and are applying their expertise through scholarship, research and real-world practice to address the most pressing challenges of the day. Get to know your teachers – talk to them after class, seek them out at campus events and during office hours, engage them in discussions about their research and about your own ideas. They will guide you and open doors to new possibilities.

You have come to St Paul University Dumaguete. When you step outside of the studio or lab or classroom, not only will you discover a campus that is teeming with activities – student organizations, clubs, athletics, exhibitions, performances, community service programs. Your experiences are part of your education not in addition to it and essential to your discovery of how to take your new knowledge, interests, passions, and skills into the life you live in the world.I speak for the entire faculty, staff, and student community of St Paul University Dumaguete in saying we are so happy you have made the decision to join us. Welcome!
