North Korea

In August 1945 the Soviet Army made a special command to take over the country until special forces that were friendly to them could be made. After the Soviet soldiers left in 1948, the main idea in the incoming years was coming together of Korea of both of the sides until the combining of Syngman Rhee troops in the South with the American army help and the forcing of the October 1948 a group of people rised up against them which ended hopes that the country could be changed by way of Communist revolution in the South. In 1949, the army wanted them to do the opposite of what there doing in South Korea was considered by the Northern government but failed to get support from the Soviet Union, which had played a role in the making of the country.

The United States Forces that they lost from the South in June really weakened the Southern government and urged Kim Il-sung to re-think a plan of attack against the South. Joseph Stalion didn't approve with the main idea but with the Soviet nuclear weapons developing, Mao Zedong's victory in China would find out that it would send troops and more help to North Korea, Stalin approved an attack which led to the Korean War.

Korean War

The Korean War was a civil war between North Korea and South Korea with major disagreements beginning on June 25, 1950, stopping with a paper signed on July 27, 1953. The conflict rose when Korea by the UN split apart and the attempts of the two Korean powers to sign up to another government with Korea's own government. The divided parties led to a civil war with a cost of more than 2 million citizens and soldiers from both sides. The time right before the war started, was because of border conflicts at the 38th parallel and attempts to negotiate elections for the whole country of Korea.

These meetings ended when the military of North Korea invaded the South on June 25, 1950. Under the protection of the United Nations, the U.S. and other nations tried to help out South Korea. After quick advances in a South Korean counterattack, North-allied Chinese forces helped out North Korea, moving the balance of the war and leading to an truce that pretty much restored the original boundaries between North and South Korea.

Not everyone agrees that this conflict was a civil war. The Korean War was the first armed encounter of the Cold War and set the standard for many later conflicts. It created the idea of a proxy war, where the two superpowers would fight in another country, forcing the people in that nation to suffer the destruction and death involved in a war between such large nations. The superpowers avoided getting into an all-out war with one another, as well as the neither side used their nuclear weapons. It also widened the Cold War, which only Europe had been concerned with. A heavily guarded demilitarized zone on the 38th parallel continues to divide the peninsula today with anti-Communist and anti-North Korea feelings still remaining in South Korea.

Since the agreement to stop of the Korean War in 1953 the relations between the North Korean government and South Korea, the European Union, Canada, the United States, and Japan have remained tense. Fighting was stopped in the agreement to stop fighting, but technically both Koreas are still at war.
