The Dangers of Dengue Fever Dengue Fever is a flu-like viral illness that is spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Recently Dengue Fever has become a major threat to the global public health. This illness is usually found in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world; more, specifically, in urban and semi urban areas within the regions. This fever is known to turn into a more complicated illness which is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) that is severe which usually results in fatality. DHF is a lethal Dengue complication that was first recognized during the Dengue epidemics in 1950s in regions including Thailand and the Phillipines. However Dengue can also be found in parts of Africa, Australia, Central and South America, and regions in the Pacific. Dengue is usually found in widespread urban areas such as Bangkok and Manila but can also be found in rural areas as well; Dengue is very uncommon in mountainous areas above 4,000 feet.
