"We need study halls!" something students have been pronouncing for a while. Well I agree, I think we should have study halls. What are study halls? Study halls are a place that allows students to study and/or complete assignments daily. With so many students needing time to complete assignments given, study halls could really benefit every student. The school board should consider giving us a study hall because we students desperately need the time to study, study halls also would administer students' time to get prepared for class, lastly we would have gratifying test scores due to the time to study and prepare.

To begin with, students need time to study because 87% percent of students attending school don't have adequate time to study at home. For example, 3 years ago my family and I went out of the country to Italy. It was a beautiful trip; however, I left on that trip 2 months into the school year; which are the most important months in school. Due to me spending my time at home preparing for this trip I didn't have as much time as I needed to study. In addition, I unfortunately missed a whole week of school. On the other hand, my older sister had a study hall in her school; therefore her grades didn't suffer as much as mine did. If only I had been lucky enough to have a study hall at my school I could've gotten time in to study before I left and the outcome of my grades wouldn't haven't been drastic.

Pursuing this further, nobody denies the fact that being prepared is an essential part of being successful in school. 88% of students agree that study halls would help them be more organized and by them being more organized their test scores would progress tremendously. While in study hall students are presented with the opportunity to study for tests that they may find to be difficult. John McCoy Assistant Principal of Coconut Grove High school tested this study hall idea that was proposed to him. For one month he allowed students to have one period of study hall, he surveyed students and 3 out of every 4 students had an increase in their academics more or so test scores. It is easy to see that study halls have a positive impact on students.

Following this further, everything takes time, whether you're studying or finishing up some work you still need time. Giving students a study hall gives them 1:30 of valuable time that can and will be spent on bettering their education. Some students have a very complicated home life, 42% of students come from homes of domestic violence, 79% of students come from single parent homes and 21% of students are adopted. Having a difficult home life can result in a child not being able to focus on their school work. But by having a study hall students can have time and quietness to excel in school.

In conclusion, students should most definitely have a study hall each and every day because with that study hall kids can have time to
