Beowulf is an old story that's been passed down by many people and a translator rewrote the story in English, Seamus Heaney. Then, a movie was created, and thus differences in the story were completely different.

The basic story line/ plot, or events, or Beowulf was on track occasionally. From the start of the book, Beowulf and his fellow Geats were sailing a terrible storm. Set for the Danes land. But, that's probably one thing that was correct about the two. When Grendel goes to strike he is described as a fiend in the movie, but in the book he's classified as a demon and attacks and kills everyone, but people fight back and when someone goes to attack Grendel, they actually stab him, although it does not hurt him in the movie, back in the books story, Grendel cannot be pierced with any blade, his scaly skin makes every weapon bounce off. And the movie told us that Grendel has very sensitive hearing and when it comes to parties it bugs him. That's a motif for his attacks that the book never gave to us. The movie showed us the battle of Beowulf and Grendel and unlike the book, Grendels arm got cut off by a door instead of being twisted and ripped right off by Beowulf himself. In book, Grendel dies in marshes alone, in the movie Grenedels mother comforts him as he slowly dies, building up her rage.

Now, Grendels mother attacks and while Beowulf sleeps, she kills everyone in the movie. Yet, in the book Beowulf is not at the long house at the time. When he goes to fight "Mom" in the book, Beowulf dives into a marsh, fighting off sea monsters before "Mom" grabs him and drags him to her lair. They fight and after he cuts her head off he finds Gendels head and brings it back to them. In the movie, Beowulf did not fight off any sea monsters, he simply walked into a cave and there she was, changing her form to a beautiful woman. She made love to Beowulf to promise him king. This is not a luxury but a curse and he returns to the land with Grendels head and says he has killed "Mom." The book says Beowulf left back home for a few years yet, the movie showed us that the king committed suicide and made Beowulf king.

50 years of Beowulf being king, a dragon terrorizes the land. Beowulf is asked to slay it and in the book, he finds the dragon in it's lair and kills it by cutting it's gut. Beowulf dies from the dragons bite. The movie has a much longer showdown, and he ultimately grabs the dragon's heart and rips it out of its place. They both fall and die as soon as he grabs the heart.

The details in the Beowulf book were vague. The movie showed us much more details; yet, they were both good stories and had their troubles and good moments. But, almost didn't seem to be either a like, when contrasting the movie and the book.
