Assignment #3

The Cowboys faced a number of challenges before they could be able to have their new stadium built. They must provide positive facts about the staidum to fans and people in the area so there okay with the stadium being built. The Cowboys also needed money for this stadium. It is hard to finance a stadium of this caliber. Even though they have a rich owner in Jerry Jones, you still need to find a way how the stadium will make money.

Cowboys stadium is a $1.1 billion operation. They faced a lot of challenges in getting this stadium built. Talks started in 2000, because their lease at their old stadium was coming up. They wanted a huge stadium, something iconic, that would give the Cowboys, an already great established franchise, a stadium that the NFL could call the mecca of stadiums. Once of the first challenges was picking a location for the stadium. Jerry Jones believed it would be years before they could find a public-private financing deal. Then the city of Arlington jumped on the opportunity to have the stadium built in their city. A stadium like this would just bring more people to the city, which means more revenue. In 2004, the city of Arlington passed a referendum allowing the city to build the stadium. It was going to provide funding for the stadium through taxes on sales, motor vehicles, tickets, and parking. The referendum was the biggest challenge in getting the stadium built. When the project hit the ground, the city originally commited $325 million to the project. After a couple tweeks, they realized they had to put in $650 million to the project. The team would have to cover the rest. Jones believed the only challenge left after this was selling the building to the envirionment. Even while it was being built, they already named the 2010 NBA All-star game to be held here. Jerry Jones thinks nothing but big things for the stadium. It will exceed expectations. This stadium will bring a first ever superbowl in this area.

The Cowboys are trying to prove to the area around the stadium that it is only going to bring good things to the city. They have entered the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Enviromental Performance. The team's goal is the recycle most of the construction waste, and they want to reduce solid waste, energy use and water consumption. The retractable roof and end zone doors were designed to cut down on heating and lighting costs. Around the stadium, they want to salvage trees and plant new ones. They have permeable pavement that will help storm water runoff soak into the ground. The performance track is designed so the stadium is being enviromentally responsible.

The Cowboys' new stadium will employ up to 4,000 people. It will provide both full-time and part-time jobs.
