III. Introduction

Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. It also helps many people in everyday decision making. Psychology will help a lot of people to explore and learn new things. The researchers chose the title “It’s all a matter of perception” because this famous line best describes what this activity is all about and how perception is important to people on how they see reality.

Two important use of psychology are sensation and perception. Sensation refers to the five common human senses which is the sense of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch while perception is the gateway to understanding the world. Perception is the process by which the mind selects, organizes, and interprets sensations. It will also help us to know how things are simply alike but hard to perceive. Both sensation and perception help many people to distinguish a certain things. Without interpretation, there is no point to sensation.

There are maybe some instances that most people have their own opinions, reactions or suggestions but most often we chose the best. Thus, the researchers conducted a study recently on how a person sense and perceive a particular thing. This conducted study will focus more on the human’s five major senses, how they think and analyze certain things, how a person practices decision making and if they rely their decisions to their senses.

For this topic, the researchers started the survey by having a two types of cookies with the same brand and flavor (Chips Delight). The only difference is their size, one has a smaller size and the other is the regular size cut into smaller pieces. The small size cookies are placed in a container labeled Brand A and the latter is placed in another container and labeled Brand B. There would be fifteen (15) selected respondents who will participate and evaluate the survey. The aim of the researchers is to let the respondents taste the cookies, evaluate it, and choose between the two brands on which one is better although the two cookie containers both have the same taste and brand. The result of the survey will all depend on the respondent’s senses, way of thinking and proper decision making.

IV. Objectives

The main objective of this activity is to know how sensation differs from perception and how it is related with each other.

Specifically, this activity aims to:

  1. Know the importance of each different human senses.
  2. Know the difference between sensation and perception.
  3. Understand how a person perceives a certain thing.
  4. Predict on what response the researchers will receive.
  5. Determine whether or not a slight difference in an aspect of objects will implicate significant effect to the perception of senses.

V. Results and Discussion

In this part, the data are presented, analyzed, and interpreted. A questionnaire was used in gathering the data which were analyzed with the use of tallying method.
