As an adult and going back to school we learn from a lot from mistakes in our past. Reports and writing term papers are expected from each individual student. This is for our benefit to learn and progress through our success in life. We as older adults and younger must use our minds and read material and use the material we read about for our own credit. Using another ones work or material is cheating all the way around. This is not fair to you are the person that you have chosen to get the material from. Adults need to realize that when reading an article or book and there are topics that we like or want to write about it is ok to express and write it in our own words however, if you use a quotes for example Benjamin Franklin said "There is much difference between imitating a man and counterfeiting him" (found on Proverbia.net). One could always rephrase and say you can act like a man but do not copy him.

There are lots of people in the world that try to take the credit where credit is due, and in the

process get lazy and decide to take the easy way out. I read an article in the New York Times

about a reporter who wrote an apology for "The Washington Post published an editor's note on

its Web site Wednesday apologizing for two articles by a longtime Post reporter who used

material from The Arizona Republic without crediting that newspaper or citing it as a

source". The report said that a reporter used and duplicated the work from the Arizona Republic Newspaper. As I continued to read this article it was very interesting but very sad because the reporter for more than 30 years. Her apology was as follows: Ms. Horwitz apologized and cited deadline pressure. "It was wrong. It was inexcusable," she said. "And it is one of the cardinal sins in journalism. I apologize to The Arizona Republic and its reporters and editors." Upon finishing the article they did not say what punishment was taken but it was severe, immediate and appropriate. In this day and age you would think that people would know right from wrong, and the pressure from work, stress, family and ongoing life circumstances does not justify by cheating. Everyone loses in situations like this especially the individual doing it.
